Widger (1976) developed a method of calculating wind power values from average wind speeds only, which was simple and appeared to have considerable value if generally valid. His results were based on records from six New England stations spread over four states using a linear relation between average and fastest wind speeds and normalizing the usual skewed distribution by a square root transformation. From comparing computed results for power output based on these theoretical values with the values calculated from the actual distributions, he concluded that his generalized tables and graph gave results within ±20%.
